Sherwood Elementary exceeded its academic growth expectations for the 2025-2026 year, improved math proficiency by 22.7 percentage points, and improved our school performance score by 20 points. This means we are moving in the right direction toward higher academic achievement!

Sherwood Elementary is an Innovation School in Gaston County Schools with a focus on using clear strategies and strong purpose to boost student success. Students receive extra instructional support, and teachers take on advanced roles to help students achieve at a higher level.

Thanks to our partnership with Kintegra Health, we offer a telehealth clinic here at our school. Students, who are experiencing a minor illness or condition, can be seen by a medical provider virtually. This allows us to provide care for students without them having to leave school to go to the doctor.

Board of Education Meeting

The Board of Education will meet on Monday, September 21, at 5:30 p.m. at the Gaston County Schools Central Office, 943 Osceola Street, Gastonia. The public is invited to attend. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you can watch it live on YouTube, the Gaston County Schools website, or Spectrum Channel 21. 

School-based telehealth clinic now available for students

Gaston County Schools is partnering with Kintegra Health to provide a school-based telehealth clinic, giving students access to medical care without leaving campus.

Through the telehealth clinic, students can connect with a Kintegra Health medical provider using secure video technology. A trained clinical professional will be with the student during the visit to assist with the exam and communicate with the provider.

Sherwood Elementary students can take part in clubs and activities such as robotics, Math Masters, and Battle of the Books.

Learning Through Music

Students are introduced to a love of the arts through hands-on activities and field trips. Recently, singer and actress Maria Howell visited to share her talents and inspire students with a live performance.

Community Partnerships

We're a proud community school that partners with the local police and fire departments to support learning and build strong relationships. The school also works with the Schiele Museum to bring hands-on science and history experiences to the classroom.
